Following Sherry Stringfield's departure in the season premiere, this season becomes the first to not feature any of the original cast members in a regular capacity (Noah Wyle is featured for four episodes in a guest capacity throughout the season).
The twelfth season of the medical drama series ER which originally aired from NBC on September 27, 2005 and concluded on May 18, 2006 and spanned 22 episodes. Sherry Stringfield left the show again in this season. This is the last season to have the original ER theme song by James Newton Howard.
According to Variety, ER star Sherry Stringfield is hanging up her scrubs for a second time. Stringfield had previously been set to appear in a handful of episodes this upcoming season, but in a statement, the actress said she had instead decided not to return to the NBC skein upon further consideration.
Stringfield was one of the show's original cast members in its fall 1994 launch, playing Dr. Susan Lewis. But after the show's first three seasons, Stringfield asked to be let out of her contract in order to relocate to New York. She returned to the show in 2001 and will have played Dr. Lewis for a total of 7 seasons.
The global public health community has warned for months that America may be in for a particularly severe flu season after serious bouts of influenza-related illness flooded hospitals in Australia during the summer, which is the winter down under.

A report from the Massachusetts Health & Hospital Association (MHA) shows youth ER boarding numbers dropped as more hospitals started referring families to one of the home-based options. Demand for mental health care does vary by season, but the MHA says the numbers are hopeful.
Reed, 29, returns for his second stint with the Dodgers after making three appearances and allowing one run over 2.2 innings in his first stint with the club. He was claimed off waivers by the Dodgers on July 13 from the New York Mets.
Hembree, 33, joins the Dodgers for the first time this season after signing a minor league contract with the club on June 30. Prior to joining the Dodgers, he was with the Pirates and was 2-0 with a 7.16 ERA (13 ER/16.1 IP) and 12 strikeouts against 14 walks in 20 games. With Triple-A Oklahoma City, he posted a 1-0 record with a 4.82 ERA (5 ER/9.1 IP) and 14 strikeouts in 10 games. He has been in the Majors parts of 10 seasons with San Francisco (2013), Boston (2014-2020), Philadelphia (2020), Cincinnati (2021), New York-NL (2021) and Pittsburgh (2022) and he is a combined 20-12 with a 4.33 ERA (168 ER/349.0 IP) and 387 strikeouts in 351 games.
